Cape Verde

Cape Verde
The Republic of Cape Verde is located in the North Atlantic ocean., and means “Green Cape” in Portuguese. Covering an area of 4033 square kilometers, the Cape Verde Islands has a population of approximately 460,000, predominantly mulatto Creole. Residents are primarily Catholic, with Portuguese the official language Portuguese, although Creole is also spoken. The currency is the Cantor, and Pula (Praia) is the capital. Cape Verde Map

The dominant blue of Cape Verde’s national flag symbolizes the sea and the sky. In between this horizontal bands of color are white strips representing hope for peace and a red strip that denotes the people's nation-building efforts. Ten five-pointed yellow stars symbolize the unity of the Cape Verde peoples.

History

In 1495, Cape Verde became a Portuguese colony. Later, in 1951, in became a Portuguese overseas province, but in December 1974, the Portuguese government was forced to sign an agreement with the Independence Party. On July 5, 1975, independence was declared, resulting in the establishment of the Republic of Cape Verde.

Economy and Cultural Customs

Cape Verde is a volcanic archipelago, which lies north of nine islands of the trade winds blowing from the northeast through the sea, known as the "Windward Islands," in the southern island of 9 in the trade wind zone outside, known as the "Leeward Islands." The main agricultural products are coffee, cocoa, and peanuts, and the primary industries are food, fish processing, and. Fisheries are one of the main pillars of the economy, with tuna and prawns two of the specialties.
